How to get lost in Sharjah

Its easy. The building of Emirates Road (and now the Bypass one) means that we no longer have to drive through Sharjah to get to the East Coast (Fujairah, Khor Fakkan to the ignorant west coast dwellers). So now if I am in Sharjah - its purely because I have to be. This evening I had to be and I got "spectacularly" lost getting to the Sahara Center. And I feel like a berk.

If I had stuck to being safe, I would have taken SZR, Garhoud, Al Ittihad Road, and turned off at the interchange before Al Khan. No brainer. The last time I drove there (about 10 days ago) - I did just that around 5ish and got there in 25 mins. Was really pleased.

I thought I'd be clever and try another route today. If I'm honest - Salik dodging. Took Al Khail road and Business Bay crossing and travelled down the back end. Sharjah has changed so much. I did not recognize some of it. And ended up going round and round - missing turns, getting blocked in so I could not take a turn and having to take the long way around. I ended up going all the way back to Al Mulla Plaza and driving back to Sahara Centre.

By this time, I was a hour and half late for a meeting, grumpy, thirsty and very very contrite. Not a position I wanted to be.

Moral of the story, stick to what you know, don't get smart. Dodging 16Dhs of Salik is just not worth it.

Honesty – not always the best policy

I was shown an "interesting" CV this morning. Don't know what job this lady was applying for but her CV is brutally honest.

If her CV is anything to be go by, she is quite proud to have started her career as a professional escort having completed a course on the Kama Sutra in Thailand! Having held jobs in modeling agencies, lap dancing in nightclubs as well as worked in a "legal brothel" – she also lists her less exotic employments options in the insurance industry that she seems to have been trying to move into. She has left all these jobs because of "unwanted sexual harassment", "personal issues".

I do feel a bit sorry for her – she seems to be trying to change careers. I have one piece of advice, lady – if you want to be taken seriously – don't flaunt your exotica in people's faces. Your employers are only human.

reBlog from fakeplasticsouks.blogspot.com: Fake Plastic Souks: Giving a Hoot

I found this fascinating quote today:

But we, as consumers, don’t want to do that. We don't want to jump around for you. We want to understand more about how you operate, engage with your people - even help to shape the products and services you offer us.What? Stuff that! Mind your own business! How we operate is our affair, not yours!fakeplasticsouks.blogspot.com, Fake Plastic Souks: Giving a Hoot, Jul 2009

Putting down my blogging pen - not just yet

I've not made it into @Catboy_dubai's blog list - and I'm not surprised. My blog is just that - ramblings and very sporadic ramblings at that.

Now that I follow a lot of other blogs, my ramblings put me to shame and show that I am neither witty nor original. So I wonder - should I put down my pen? Nah. My ramblings allow me to let off steam, so I don't kill someone or bite someone's head off. Not the thing to do when you are in PR.

So for now - the world (around me) is safe. I shall carry on rambling. Albeit sporadically.
