Why am I surprised

I did something I have been thinking of doing for a long time but kept putting off because I was worried about rejection. And it has happened. I got in touch with my sons to see if either of them would get back in touch and got a resounding no from my youngest (on Facebook no less) and a wall of silence from the other.

I told myself that I would try and get in touch with them after they had crossed 21 and only managed to get the courage to do it now. I had a brief contact with the oldest (and suddenly that was gone).

I was surprised at how deep the cut is. I thought I had inured myself against this. Obviously not
